Opinion pitches nov 7

First set of November pitches!

It's finally starting to look like winter...

Hey all! Hope you all are having a great start to November, and are looking forward to Fall Reading Week! I know I am. A quick reminder that there will be no meeting next week because of reading week. I will still be sending out pitches via email for that week, so please still feel free to write on something! I'm also STILL looking for just one more 2-3 sentence submission about where you feel most at home on campus. I know a ton of you lovely people have sent me one already, but if you haven't and you want to be in the December magazine, this is your last chance! Please email me your submission ASAP if you have one. Finally, here are the pitches. Ripe and ready. Good to go. If you pick one up, deadline is Friday at 5pm!

Customers buy out doughnut shop early every day so owner can be with ailing wife

A heartwarming

of a community coming together to help a man spend more time with his wife, who's in the hospital recovering from an aneurysm. While it's amazing the potential that social media and such has in helping people, it's still kind of crazy that this guy's first obligation (out of necessity) is to ensure he sells out of donuts in order to sustain himself and his wife economically, as well as spend time with his wife in the hospital.

HUB Community Association proposes installation of OneCard access locks in HUB

HUB is the only residence that isn't locked up at night, which has brought many safety and community concerns along with it. This official

for adding OneCard access locks has gone forward to Anciliary Services, and now the HUB Community Association is waiting for a response. This kind of proposal, to my knowledge, isn't new; HUB students and advocates have been asking for something like this for years.

UCP proposes making a database to screen out extremists

After PressProgress, a left-leaning media source, revealed that the man who ran Jason Kenney's call centre was associated with white supremacy, the UCP has said that they want to implement a

to reference to ensure they don't let far-righters into their ranks. Some have questioned the feasibility of creating such a database.
