Hey everyone, Taylor here!I hope all of you are doing well and soaking in any sun that comes your way.I have a few announcements for you this week:
Deputy Editor positions are up! Check out our website to see how you can apply to become our next Deputy Editor. Applications will be accepted until May 27, with interviews taking place shortly after.
I've finally created our Discord! The main Discord is for all volunteers and we have various text channels for each section. Slack will still be our primary communication for work, but Discord is where we will be having game nights and fun activities going up. Check it out! Here's the link: https://discord.gg/spmqj2uS

The U of A has set a date aside in July for alumni who graduated during the pandemic and were unable to attend an in-person ceremony. Half of those students are two years out of school, with many possibly having moved away and being well-into their careers. Is this a good move by the university to represent our past alumni? Could the U of A have chosen another event to celebrate the past graduates? What are your thoughts on this?

The Alberta government has given the U of A $48 million to assist in supporting popular undergraduate programs in science, engineering, business, and nursing. Considering the budget cuts given by the provincial government earlier this year, how does this news stand? What are you thoughts?

Is AI a blessing or a curse?In a recent publication, the Council of Canadian Academics has stated that AI has both "the potential to spur innovation and further scientific understanding" and but also increase the room for human error. What's your opinion on this? Is the future in AI a bright one?

Increasing police patrols Downtown In a response to public safety, Edmonton has decided to increase the number of police patrols Downtown. This has been faced with some public backlash on how this could negatively affect marginalized communities. What affect do you think this will have?

Pride Corner on WhyteThe corner of Whyte Ave and 104 street is one of fame. Often having people preach on various subjects, particularly on homophobic religious views, this corner has made many people feel unsafe. The Mayor has officially recognized this corner the Pride Corner. What's your thought on this?
