Wowza!
January sure flew by. We're coming up on SU elections and all kinds of wild things! Although February is short, it's gonna be a whole lot of fun.A few housekeeping things! CBC's The National is holding a Q&A at NAIT with Rachel Notely, policymakers, and energy experts about the future of energy in Alberta! It's happening on February 5th at 6pm. Myself and a few other opinion volunteers are going, so please let me know if you're interested! You can get free tickets here. Also, CJSR is holding February news training! It's an opportunity to learn how to produce radio segments (doing radio writing, audio editing, and so on) for The Gateway Presents, as well as other shows on CJSR! If you want to get more involved in doing radio stuff, click the link here to sign up! OH, also, our lovely Arts and Culture editor Jonah is hosting a party for all GSJS peeps this Friday night! It'll be a really good time with Gateway staff, volunteers, and more! Other than that, here are pitches! As always, deadlines are on Friday at 5pm! Email me if you want to snag a pitch!

Demonstrators in Lister protest how sexual assault cases are handled
This
was headed by the U of A's Sexual Assault Centre. The demonstration was meant to point out various flaws in how sexual assault cases are handled at the U of A, including how the U of A Appeals board lacks anti-sexual violence training, how full re-trials can occur for cases around misconduct, and other issues.
The issue of lack of training was pointed out in a 2016 review of the university's sexual misconduct procedures. Changes still have not been made.

Snapchat weighs what was once unthinkable - permanent snaps
Yeah, you heard Snap Inc right. They want to be able to make photo and video shared to "Our Story" possibly permanent, as well as more accessible outside the app, in order to bring in more users and also bring in revenue either by making their ad space more appealing, or by selling access to public posts.
