Opinion pitches jan 16

Pitches be like...

AY, YUH

Hello, everyone! Thanks to all of you who were able to make it to the Gateway Open House yesterday! It was great to see you all there and hang out with you all. I have some exciting news for you all: Tristin Hopper, a columnist for the National Post, will be coming during next week's opinion meeting to discuss various things about writing stories, as well as some things about breaking into professional journalism from student journalism. It'll be a great opportunity to learn from a professional who has been working in the field and has tons of experience, so don't miss it! Another quick thing: I presented on how to find and propose pitches suring our meeting yesterday, which you can find here. If you've been thinking about pitching stories you want to write about to me, this presentation is a great place to start regarding how to go about it! Finally, we have pitches. Deadline is 5pm on Friday as per usual! Have a great rest of your weeks, everyone!

Bike sharing could come to Edmonton as early as May

WHOA!!!!

Similar services have been popping up in many cities around Canada, but it sounds like Edmonton may soon be getting a

!

Is this a good idea? Does Edmonton have the infrastructure to make a bike-sharing program effective?

Students’ Union vies for control of student groups and events

Currently, in order to set up a student group, regardless of affiliation (ie. with the SU, Graduate Students' Association, or the Dean of Students), students must go through the Dean of Students. The DoS holds all oversight and disciplinary power over these groups.

The SU is working through some

that they hope will help SU-affiliated groups be able to easily book space in SUB, as well move disciplinary oversight to the SU, hopefully allowing more freedom for those student groups.

What do you think of this move?
