Concerns over upcoming City Council budgetDeliberations for the upcoming budget begin soon, and many Edmonton residents are concerned. Some worry that the deliberations will consist of petty debate, as have many recent council meetings, while others worry this budget will set a negative precedent for the next four years. Having a politically diverse council is usually a good thing, but will council members only want to advance their own agendas instead of wanting the best for Edmonton? What effects could this budget have on those of future years?

Last week, the provincial government opened vaccine bookings for Albertans over 18 looking to get their fourth dose. However, many Albertans took to Twitter, concerned about the delay in opening the bookings, which have been behind the other provinces. With 34 thousand doses in storage waiting to be used, how will this affect the roll out in the future? With the new BA.5 subvariant, what impact will this delay have on students in the fall?

Edmonton area residents want a combined transit systemA new study found that four out of five respondents from the Edmonton area want a transit system that encompasses all surrounding municipalities, such as Leduc and St. Albert. Will this help connect students to the city and the U of A, allowing them to live in their respective communities without moving to Edmonton? Or, will it burden an already inefficient and slow transit system?

The intersection at 104 Street and Whyte Avenue officially named Pride CornerAfter a petition garnered more than 10,000 signatures, the City of Edmonton officially adorned the famed street corner with a rainbow sign. Explore the history of Pride Corner, and what this could mean for Edmonton’s queer community!

International students the U of A have expressed concern over the massive increase in tuition that will impact incoming students. In the 2023-24 calendar year, new international students can expect to pay six per cent more, adding nearly $10,000 to most arts and science degrees. Discuss how this will affect enrolment at the U of A, our world ranking amongst other universities, and what needs to change!
