Have no fear, Opinion pitches are here!

Ahoy! Take an opinion pitch, if ye dare...

Hello, mateys! It's already one month into the winter semester! I hope everyone is still holding on (I think I'm slowly losing my sanity, which might explain why there's a pirate theme to this week's pitches). With that, here are this week's pitches!Just let us know which one you'd like and what your take on it will be. And, of course, if you have any pitches of your own, feel free to let myself or Katie know. You can reach me at [email protected], and Katie at [email protected] or over Slack! That's all folks!Megan & Katie

Tuition increase announcements were met with protests by the University of Calgary Students' Union, who said they weren't adequately consulted before their Board of Governors voted on the increase. U of A students have responded, voicing similar concerns, and wondering if the UASU is planning a similar protest. Write about whether or not you think following in U of C's footsteps is the right call of action.

Some such ideas include weed cafes, where patrons would go to specially designated businesses to smoke pot in public. Talk about whether or not you think this is a good idea, or if it would even be successful in Edmonton!

Edmontonians flocked to Twitter in exasperation after a car turned right onto the Valley Line LRT tracks at a red light by Bonnie Doon mall, another issue in a long line of mishaps. Should Edmonton remove the option to turn right at red lights to stop this from happening again? What does this mean for a LRT line that has been delayed for several years?

Joannie Fogue (VP Student Life) has worked on a space for students who parent in Rutherford Library. Now, parents can study while caring for their children, and don't have to worry about sacrificing their education for their children. Explore what this program will look like, and how it improves our campus!

A campaign launched by students called DishZero launched at SUB’s Daily Grind and Filistix on January 16. The initiative allows students to borrow reusable takeout containers from campus vendors, then return them in a 48 hour period. Write an article about the future of this initiative, and what it means for UAlberta’s continued efforts towards sustainability on campus.
