Filistix struggling amid online school extension 

Filistix, a local Filipino restaurant in SUB, is struggling to stay open after the U of A decided to extend online school until the end of February. How are COVID-19 pressures and ever-changing guidelines affecting other vendors at the university? Will they survive the pandemic?

Opinions about the COVID-19 response and mandates continue to divide

As COVID-19 numbers continue to rise, countless people are protesting mask and vaccine mandates all over the country. On the other hand, many Canadians are blaming COVID-19 deniers for the continuation of the pandemic and are angry governments aren’t doing enough. How will this division impact Canadians, as well as future responses from different levels of government? Will this impede the end of the pandemic?

Calls to lower tuition fees 

With news of online learning extended to February 28, many students are signing a petition asking the U of A to lower tuition fees for the Winter term. After the massive budget cuts the University faced, is this a good idea long term? What benefits could this have for students?

Top five quarantine activities 

Since the U of A has announced school will be online until February 28, many students are starting to feel that beginning of year COVID-19 nostalgia. Two years ago, COVID-19 was met with Dalgona coffee and Tiktok dances. With the most recent COVID-19 surge, how will we distract ourselves? What do you think the next trends will be?
