UASU president Abner Monteiro said that students were properly consulted during tuition increase discussions, compared to U of C students who are currently protesting the fourth round of tuition hikes, without adequate consultation. U of A students flocked to Twitter to voice their disagreements, saying there was minimal consultation, and they felt misrepresented.

The Minister of Advanced Education, Demetrios Nicolaides, recently announced that universities in Alberta will have to report on whether or not they're advocating for free speech, which was hit with backlash on Twitter. This announcement follows the recent protests at U of L, where students protested a controversial speaker.

In response to the rise of crime and vandalism downtown, the provincial government will send 12 sheriffs to help our local police. The decision was met with dismay, and the voicing of concerns that this will only add to the problem, not help it.

A local comedian recently went to council and ate a chilli pepper to suggest that climate change wasn't that serious "even if things heat up", which was met with councillors saying it wasn't all that funny. Talk about how stunts like this can impact the fight for climate action.
