Hey y'all!I hope everyone had a good long weekend! This crisp fall weather is just a reminder that winter is right around the corner, so get out there and enjoy it while you can! Quick reminder that this Friday at 4:00 p.m., we're watching The Grand Budapest Hotel! It's the perfect way to finish off midterm season, so make sure you stop by! As well, postings for the Deputy Editor positions for each section have gone up! Each one closes October 21 at midnight, so if you're interested, send your resume and cover letter to Emily at [email protected]! With that, here are this week's pitches! Macleans ranks the U of A in the top 5 universities in Canada for medical programsIn a ranking for the best medical doctoral universities in Canada, Macleans magazine placed the U of A in the top 5. The U of A's nursing program ranked in third, with our education program also placing quite high. In the past year, the U of A has continued ranking higher and higher, despite immense budget cuts. While this high ranking is a good sign for prospective students coming into these programs, it's making students in other disciplines worried they'll grow more underfunded as highly sought after programs receive more funding. Explore these concerns, and what this ranking could mean for the university's future!

All COVID-19 entry requirements, including mandatory vaccines, masking on airplanes, and use of the ArriveCAN app, will be dropped as of October 1, 2022. Many are divided over this issue, with some thinking it's time we drop COVID-19 border requirements, since most mandates have been relaxed anyway. On the other hand, some are concerned that this will lead to an another outbreak, and that we should continue to enforce COVID-19 entry requirements. Explore what repealing these mandates will mean, and pick a side!

Acute care COVID-19 outbreaks A recent update from AHS has revealed that most acute care facilities are currently experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks. What could have been done to prevent this? How could this rapid spread impact students in the near future?

Marble pedestal: Edmonton's skylineRecently, Edmonton's skyline was ranked as the second most likeable skyline in Canada, getting on average 65 likes per photo on instagram. If you love the Edmonton Skyline, and want to write an ode to it, do so in this marble pedestal!

Edmonton City Council has approved a new bylaw, stating that as of July 2023, businesses can no longer sell or give customers plastic bags. Instead, they have to charge at least $0.15 for a paper bag, and $1.00 for a reusable bag. Is this a step in the right direction in alleviating Edmonton's impact on the climate crisis? Or, will this small change do very little, instead just irritating Edmonton residents, who are already resistant to climate action?
