U of A land development project 

In the new year, UAlberta will seek approval from city council for land development on the former Michener Park site, among others. The proposed project will consist of mixed-use housing and is intended to produce revenue for university teaching and research. Is this project a good use of this land? Should universities be in the land development business?

While the Omicron variant sweeps through Alberta, there is a province-wide shortage of Pfizer, the only vaccine booster young people aged 18 to 29 years old are eligible for. Will this affect the return to campus for many post-secondary students? Will Alberta see a further rise in cases, or will it have little impact?

The length of isolation requirements has been halved from 10 to five days in Alberta — as long as all symptoms are gone. Why was this change made? Was it the right call?

In a year-end interview with the Calgary Sun last week, Jason Kenney referred to the COVID-19 variants as the “next bat soup thing out of Wuhan”. Although Kenney apologized, many are unsatisfied. Is his apology satisfactory? What do these comments say about wider public opinion?
