Concerns over upcoming City Council budgetDeliberations for the upcoming budget begin soon, and many Edmonton residents are concerned. Some worry that the deliberations will consist of petty debate, as have many recent council meetings, while others worry this budget will set a negative precedent for the next four years. Having a politically diverse council is usually a good thing, but will council members only want to advance their own agendas instead of wanting the best for Edmonton? What effects could this budget have on those of future years?

As Edmonton residents soak up the hot weather, many climate activists warn that we shouldn’t be treating the heat wave like a vacation, especially as Lytton, B.C. is currently falling victim to wildfires. They say that the heat wave can only mean bad things for Edmonton in the future, and we should be reporting and treating it as such. Discuss whether or not you think Edmontonians should be more concerned, and what actions we should take!

Mosquitoes seem to be targeting Edmonton This year, Edmontonians seem to be struggling with swarms of mosquitoes like they never have before. It feels like you can’t even leave your house out of fear of being attacked. The tactics used by City Council this year seem to be doing very little to keep the mosquito population down. Many festival organizers are trying to balance the costs of running their events without charging a ton for tickets, entertainment, or concessions. The rising costs of inflation means that many festivals are barely breaking even, let alone making a profit.
