Valley Line Southeast LRT delays cause frustration amongst transit users 

The LRT line, which would connect Downtown and Mill Woods, was originally supposed to open in 2020. Many transit users are frustrated, since many transit routes were cut down or removed entirely to eventually be replaced by the LRT line, which still isn’t open. With the fall semester quickly approaching, contractors swear that the Valley Line will open Summer 2022. Explore what these delays will mean for transit users and students trying to get to campus!

A private company has agreed to pay the City of Edmonton $1.125 a year to lease land in order to operate a gondola that would connect Downtown and Old Strathcona. The company hopes it will be a cheap and fast transportation option, as well as a tourist attraction. Will the gondola help connect both sides of the North Saskatchewan, or will it just take up valuable land that could be better used? 

U of A offers some free courses through CourseraThe U of A now offers free courses by leading experts on a variety of topics, including Indigenous history and paleontology. Course lengths range from a few weeks to a couple months. Explore what this could mean for accessibility of knowledge and education at the U of A, for both students and the general public alike!

Danielle Smith promotes separatism during UCP leadership raceDanielle Smith has met some backlash recently as she promotes her Alberta Sovereignty Act during the UCP leadership race. If passed, the ASA would exempt Alberta from any federal laws. Write about what consequences this would hold for Alberta if Smith became premier! 

Some U of A programs in engineering, business, agricultural sciences, and nursing have ranked in the top three in Canada, and placed in the top 50 worldwide. With an increased demand in these programs, there are hopes that the U of A will continue to rank highly globally. Talk about what this could mean for the future of the U of A, and our global standings in the future!
