Old Strathcona Public Realm Strategy This spring, Old Strathcona will be holding consultation sessions about public land use in the neighbourhood. Ahead of this event, many are proposing changes to infrastructure that prioritizes affordable housing, pedestrian safety, and green spaces. What do you think the Whyte Avenue/Old Strathcona area needs to change moving forward?
Last week, the provincial government stopped collecting the gas tax to combat rising gas prices. Now, gas costs have decreased significantly. These savings may help Albertans in the short term, but is this tax cut sustainable? Are the financial burdens afflicting Albertans so high that this change will do very little to help?
Point/Counterpoint: campus geeseAs the weather warms, the U of A has seen some new friends on campus. Particularly, a few geese that wander around and perch on top of Old Arts. Are these geese a wonderful addition to campus life, or are they harbingers of evil waiting to attack? Pick a side, and write an article with a fellow volunteer!
Edmonton Public Transit washrooms all closedAccording to the city’s transit safety and security report, majority of the 30 public washrooms in transit stations have been closed due to safety concerns. Write a column about the lack of public washrooms and the implications this has on our city. Does closing public washrooms actually improve safety?
Online options for next yearMany are calling for the university to continue to provide online and hybrid options going forward. Check out the academic calendar for next year. Are there enough online options? Is going back fully in-person still desirable next year?
