Hello lovely volunteers!

This time I've got some pitches for the November magazine! This is a wonderful chance to get your work immortalized in a Gateway magazine!

These pitches are for the notes section of the magazine. For those who don't know, the notes section is filled with fun, short, and sometimes interactive pieces with a word count of around 500-800 words! 

Disclaimer:

• To write for the magazine you need to have written at least 5 pieces of regular content for the Gateway!

• These pitches are due on September 6th! 

• Since we have so many lovely pieces for November, it is a possibility that not all pieces will run for the November magazine! If this is the case, I will let you know and we can talk about a different possible deadline!

The Pitches

• We have some really amazing Native studies professors that we could profile! 

  • Dr. Kim TallBear- She's actually a very well known professor and a well-known figure in the media! For example, her twitter has 32.9K followers! There is a lot of angles you can spin on this, so check her out and let me know what you would want to talk about with her! Her twitter handle is @KimTallBear

  • Tasha Hubbard- she's an associate professor and an indigenous filmmaker! Her most recent film was a documentary called nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up which is about the Colten Boushie trial! It would be awesome to talk about Indigenous film making with this prof! 

• Make a QUIZ!!!! This is a super fun pitch! The theme of this quiz is "What should you do for Reading week?". The contents of the quiz are up to you! Think back to those Seventeen magazine quizzes about which Jonas Brother you should marry- that's the kind of vibe I'm going for! If you choose this pitch, you will need to work alongside our art director to find a format that will work in the magazine! 

• Interview an immunology professor about the risk of certain diseases coming back due to anti-vaxxers!! I know this isn't a super pressing topic, but it still remains super relevant because people are still really out here not vaccinating their kids! It would be cool to talk to a professor about how the anti-vax movement started, what diseases can come back, and how pressing this issue actually is! If you are a strong believer in vaccinating your children, let me know and I'll put you in contact with a professor!
