News Pitches

There are lots of cool stories this week!

Hi news team

Last week was great for news, so many volunteers took stories! I hope we can keep it up as the school year continues :) Here are some pitches for you all, just send me an email if you're interested in any of these.Have a great week!Sofia

Could the U of A have free menstrual products?

The University of Calgary students' union decided to get rid of their free pizza days to use the money to provide free menstrual products to students. This is a pretty interesting choice, could it happen here? Interview SU vice-president (student life) Ilya Ushakov to see if this could be a possibility at U of A!

New funding for researchers studying renewable energy

Three streams of U of A scientists have gotten funding, those researching solar power, geothermal, and biofuels. I'm hoping to run a three-part series about this story, are you interested in writing an article about geothermal research at the U of A? (Solar power and biofuels were taken at the news meeting) Let me know!

Profile ZeroPlane

ZeroPlane is a new group of engineering, business, and science students who are trying to make Alberta's first fully-electric aeroplane. Talk to them about how they're going to accomplish this goal and why students might want to join the group.

Profile the Dino Lab

The Dino Lab on campus trains volunteers to help prepare paleontological specimens. They've been around on campus for a long time now, so talk to them about what they do and why students should volunteer.

Identity matters

Researchers from the Students' Union have just finished their year-long study of how identity (race, gender, sexuality, age, etc.) influence their involvement in student governance. This has been a really big topic in SU elections and could be really interesting, so talk to the researchers about their results.
