Here are some scary... good pitches!

Due this Friday.... or else

Hi Friends! Happy spooky season!

If you can't tell from all the obnoxious Halloween themed emails, I'm a bit of a Halloween fanatic! Now that we can't be out and about celebrating, I guess inserting Halloween gifs in all my emails is one my ways of still enjoying the holiday!

This brings me to this week's pitches:

  • Do a virtual "campus voices" on how people are celebrating Halloween in a safe, socially distant way! For those who don't know, Campus Voices are articles where we ask students/ the u of a community a question, get a quick answer, and a photo of those who participate! Due to COVID, these will, of course, have to be done virtually!

  • Talk to a Drama or Music professor about how their doing in-person classes and grappling with "conducting classes are navigating the challenging barrier of human connection while physical distancing." (Pulled that quote from the press release!)

  • U of A professor is trying to create a salt mask that kills COVID-19!

  • A U of A family doctor and clinical professor made a free app he hopes will improve medical care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • A U of A researcher is working on creating micro implants that can help individuals with paralysis walk again.

  • U of A grads Nick Kazakoff and Brendan Gallagher have an industrial design company ONETWOSIX and they recently won the Western Living Industrial Designers of the year! They make campers, curling brooms, and MRI machines?!

  • The Faculty of Extension is offering courses in renewable energy to help students get jobs in these fields

  • There's a Ualberta Twitter account that tweets out fun facts every day for some reason?! We can try to get an interview with this account and figure out why!

As usual, these will be due Friday around 6 p.m. If you want to take a story but need more time, let me know and we can work out a different deadline!

As always, you are welcome to pitch a story to me!

News Meeting Time Has Changed!

Just a reminder that news meeting times have changed to

4 pm on Mondays,

as this was the time that received the most votes on the Doodle poll!

Hopefully, this time still works for most people! If this time no longer works for you, send me an email and we can work together to make sure you can still get all the info from news meetings!

If you're looking for a Halloween classic, watch the original "Scream Queen" Jamie Lee Curtis in the iconic movie... Halloween!
