Hi news team!

In case you haven't met me yet, I'm Sofia Osborne your new News Editor! I'm really excited to work with all of you this year and cover the heck out of campus news :)News is actually blowing up right now! First, we found out that yes, female professors get paid less than men. Then we found out that our former university president is still getting paid over $500,000 by the U of A even though she doesn't even live in Alberta anymore. And now the Minister of Advanced Education is calling for a review of presidential salaries!Send me an email at [email protected] (or just reply to this email) if you want to take any of the articles below. Also, feel free to pitch me a story if you know of anything cool going on around campus or if you want to talk to a professor about something that's going on in the real world.P.S. in a week on July 25 we'll be having a volunteer meeting at 5 p.m., stop by and I'll be pitching out some October magazine content!

Female professors get paid less than male ones according to a new report

A report from the Association of Academic Staff of the U of A has found that women, visible minorities, and indigenous professors are being paid significantly less than their male counterparts. Now, the AASUA is asking the U of A to release its data so they can prove that the wage gap exists.

This is a more challenging story that will involve several interviews but it's a really important issue to cover! Let me know if you're up for the challenge.

Room at the Top is getting a new mural

Talk to Robyn Paches about this and how this fits in with his vision for RATT.

Profile Engage North

A group called

, which was started at the U of A, offers internships and fellowships for Canadian university students in Northern Indigenous communities. To profile them you'd talk to their director and someone who's done one of the internships.

Profile the new Dean of Native Studies

Talk to

, the new Dean of Native Studies, and find out about his background, his time at the U of A, and what he's hoping to do for Native Studies at the university.

    Orientation content

We're already thinking about back-to-school content! Why not do a Q&A with a bunch of professors and ask them for their biggest piece of advice on succeeding in school this year? Or if you have any other orientation content ideas please pitch them to me!
