Hello everyone! Hope the first week back wasn't too hard! Just a friendly reminder that the drop/add deadline is this Friday, January 22!

• Faculty of science student services centre was renamed to Margaret-Ann Armour Student Advising Centre! Margaret Ann Armour is an old chemistry professor who passed away a couple of years ago! She did a lot of advocacy for women in STEM and already has a school named after her!

• A new podcast draws on the U of A's signature expertise in AI to explore how the technology will shape society.

• U of A physicists found that energy channelled into Earth's upper atmosphere by space weather prefers to head north—with implications for protecting global communications networks from solar disturbances.... so basically solar winds favour the north and this has implications for designing electrical grids!

• There's a website that tells you if the escalators are working at the Uni LRT station! Talk to the person who made it!

• A study of falcons at an Edmonton grain terminal has revealed new clues to the hunting habits of the elusive birds of prey!

• Interview Doug Stollery, our old chancellor who received the Order of Canada! A volunteer has already written on two U of A recipients, so if you would like to finish the last part of this series let me know!

• The Edmonton Foodbank has done 40 years of service! This may not seem directly related to campus, but the foodbank definitely affects our campus too so this would be a great community story! 

• The PMCOL Students' Association is hosting a lecture on hypertension across the lifespan, in partnership with hypertension Canada
