Hey everybody — Areeha here! I hope you are doing well and staying warm! Make sure to stay safe in this crazy snow we're currently having!Here is a quick announcements!Come join us for our Open Houses tomorrow! They are at 2:00 PM and at 5:00 PM and we'd love to have you! It's a fun way to hangout with staff and meet some other volunteers!   • U of A research shows for the first time why the antiviral drug remdesivir works against some viruses but not other, which will be key to developing the therapies against the COVID-19 pandemic and future pandemics.

  • The annual FoMD Lifesaver Debate imagines that a catastrophic event has wiped out most of humanity and the survivors (the audience) must set sail off to rebuild society. This event is January 26th from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM! Attend and cover it! 

  • A new community-driven project aims to support revitalization of Indigenous languages for current and coming generations. The five-year project will expand relationships between U of A and Indigenous communities. 

  • The U of A Pandas student-athletes and the City of Edmonton have partnered in creating a new recreation program for girls aged 9-15; For Girls By Girls!

  • Faculty of Science graduate Luca Vanzella captured stunning collection of photos of Edmonton skies, and was featured as NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day.

  • The U of A Health Hub and Accelerator has a new name, a new mission and values, and new services to offer innovators and entrepreneurs starting out in the health sector!

  • Active Minds is a student led, student run, mental health awareness and advocacy group! Do a profile on this club!

  • U of A Law Professor Hadley Friedland has co-authored a new article detailing the findings of a community-led collaboration with the government of the Toquaht Nation on Vancouver Island.

  • U of A diabetes researchers are reporting early success in a first-in-humans clinical trial to test whether pancreatic cells grown from stem cells can be safely implanted and begin to produce insulin.
