NEWS | OPINION | ARTS & CULTURE | FEATURES | MULTIMEDIA
Hi newsies,
Thanks to everyone who came to Dewey's with me yesterday, it was very nice to hang out with you :) I have some pitches for you! I also wanted to let you guys know that I've started a news team Facebook group that I update a lot more frequently with pitches than this mailing list, please join if you'd like to!Alsooo some other news:- If you've produced at least five pieces of content for The Gateway since the start of September, you can become a member of The Gateway Student Journalism Society, which means you can vote in our Annual General Meeting and you also get a sick membership card that gets you lots of discount around campus and Edmonton. If you qualify for membership please send [email protected] an email and include five pieces of content that you've produced so Eilish can set you up with the card!- Finally, on Friday November 24 at 5 pm in the office (SUB 3-04) we'll be having a fun board game night, it's going to be a really nice, casual bonding time so please come by! Bring $5 if you'd like to eat some pizza :)Okay that's it from me, please email me at [email protected] if you want to pick up any of these pitches and we can talk about a deadline. Thanks!Sofia
City of St. Albert Youth Council
St. Albert is getting a youth council for people age 14-24. Edmonton already has one (Marina Banister was on it). I know there were students involved with making this happen and a lot of U of A student live in St. Albert so it would be cool to do a story on this!
Mr. Pharmacy
So the Faculty of Pharmacy is putting on a mock beauty contest/talent show with eight pharmacy guys on December 2 in the Myer Horowitz Theatre to raise money for Movember. You could preview this event, it should be interesting and kind of a fun story.
Profile the Feminists at the U of A
It's a cool feminist club on campus, ask them about why they think feminism is important, what events they put on, and how students can get involved.
The future of Catholic school boards
This is an event happening on campus on November 27 with former Education Minister David King. Obviously there's a lot going on with the Catholic school board right now, it should be an interesting talk. You can get an interview with King and preview the event, or attend it and write about it.
Profile Brad Baker
Brad is the quarterback of the Golden Bears football team. Although they just lost in the semifinals against the U of C Dinos, this was the first time we made it to the playoffs since 2010. Apparently Brad is one of the best QB's we've had in a long time. You don't need sports experience to write this, I think it'd be really interesting to talk to him!
