We finally made it to Reading Week!! Make sure to take some time to relax and practice self-care this week! Spend time doing things you enjoy, whether that is reading some books, meeting virtually with friends, or re-watching your favourite movies! If you have any questions, or would just like to chat, feel free to shoot me a message me via Slack, or via email at [email protected]!

Since there will be no news meeting next week because of elections, these articles will be due next Friday!

Interested in the revival of a student science journal, NASA and Mars rovers or Black Excellence? We have a pitch for you! Here are some leftover pitches from today's meeting! Send Khadra a Slack message or an email her at [email protected] if you'd like to take one!

  • Michael Frishkopf, an ethnomusicologist, promotes health and human connection through music with people as far away as Africa and the Middle East, and with refugees in Edmonton. Interview him about his work.

She is the founder of the Breath In Poetry performance collective in Edmonton, and plays a lead role on a Nigerian TV show called Gidi Up. Try to interview her for a profile!

  • U of A researchers have found that Albertans who signed up to receive daily positive messages from the Text4Hope program reported lower levels of psychological distress after three months. Talk to the researcher about these findings!

  • DESCENT, a satellite mission designed and made at York University, was set to launch from the International Space Station, but when they experienced radio failure, they turned to U of A’s AlbertaSat team to help them out and save their mission. Talk to AlbertaSat about that experience!

  • NASA’s Perseverance Rover is landing February 18th on the planet Mars. You could interview Chris Herd, who is a sample scientist on the mission, on what this landing will be like and what it will mean for him!

  • Attend or preview The Black Medical Students' Association's For The Culture: Black Excellence event, which features 5 guest speakers from diverse career backgrounds who will talk about breaking down barriers. The event is on February 25 from 6-7:30 pm
