Come cover UASU elections! 

We are starting to recruit volunteers to help us cover UASU elections! We will have a team of News volunteers, and a team of Opinion volunteers. Keep in mind that volunteers cannot be part of both teams! An example of previous UASU election coverage can be found here.If you are interested in covering UASU elections, please contact Emily for the Opinion team ([email protected]) or me for the News team ([email protected]) ASAP! Please let us know by February 18th by the latest!Readership Survey!Make sure you fill out the Gateway's Readership Survey! This is an important resource for us to find out how to proceed with The Gateway, so please take 1-2 minutes to complete it! Especially as volunteers, we would love to have your feedback on The Gateway's content! Once you do, you'll be entered into a $100 Safeway gift card draw!  

Here are News pitches for the week, please let me know if you're interested in any of them:

  • Black History Month Event: Power of the Pen - The event will detail the history of Thomas Peters, who fled slavery to freedom and fought on the side of the British during the American Revolutionary War. This is on Wednesday at 6 PM. 

  • Black History Month Event: Tenderness with Titilope Sonuga - Join Edmonton’s Poet Laureate as she brings her poetry of hope, healing and the capacity for tenderness in challenging times to UAlberta. This is on Wednesday at 7 PM. 

  • The Alberta Cancer Foundation marked World Cancer Day 2022 in part with the recognition of a life-saving, made-in-Alberta clinical trial led by UAlberta oncologist Dr. Michael Chu

  • Alberta School of Business professor Dr. Randall Morck was recently ranked as the top economics and finance researcher in Canada

  • A U of A study from The Faculty of ALES found animal-based protein to be recommended for people being treated for cancer.

  • Researchers at the U of A are studying mountain pine beetles and what their developing resilience to the cold will mean for Alberta.

  • A U of A-led transportation study looked into women who use public transit, and recommended how to make public transit more accessible for women.

  • Interview international students at the U of A on what the upcoming return to campus will look like for them.

  • The UASU is adding a menstrual product dispenser to CSJ!
