News pitches 

  • New U of A research shows that Edmonton has “urban heat islands” with significantly higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas in both summer and winter. 

  • U of A professors are available to comment on a wide variety of back-to-school topics — how sleep can affect learning, advice on keeping students motivated at school, how teachers can incorporate Indigenous knowledge into the classroom, etc. 

  • The Canadian Foundation for Innovation has funded $8.8 million to The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC) and $10.6 million to GlycoNet Integrated Services (GIS), helping two key U of A research centres continue their pioneering work. 

  • The Domestic Abuse Resource Hub, the first of its kind in Canada, offers a wide range of resources including connections to counselling, videos, podcasts and written materials. The resource is based on U of A research.

  • Men’s and women’s satisfaction with romantic relationships is equally important to predicting their future happiness, according to a new U of A study.

  • The U of A is partnering with a leading Silicon Valley firm to support innovation growth in Alberta’s agriculture and food sectors.
