Creative Writing Submissions Call 1 (copy 04)
The Gateway Creative Writing Submissions Call
Hello everyone!
Last year, The Gateway’s official student magazine took a step in its evolution by including creative writing pieces from students. The pieces added so much to the magazine, and we loved them so much that we’re calling for submissions again!
All undergraduate students who do create writing work (including but not limited to short stories, poetry, creative nonfiction, personal essays, etc) are welcome to submit as many pieces as they would like. There is a Google form attached to this email that all potential contributors must use. Please submit your work in the format of a blinded Word document or PDF (do not put your name on the document). There is no minimum word count, but please keep all pieces shorter than 3000 words. Another good thing to keep in mind is that shorter works are more likely to be included in the magazine, as we do have a set page count.
Some of you may remember that last year’s magazines were all given themes. This was done to give the magazine structure and make each issue unique. For this year, we have decided to only three themed issues to give writers, illustrators, and photographers as much creative freedom as we possibly can.
The themes we will be incorporating this year are listed below. Feel free to base your work around them, but don’t feel obligated to.Themes:
Fear
Mental Health
Personality and Identity
We would like to gather as many submissions as we can right now so we can plan our magazines as far in advance as possible. There may not be other calls for submissions throughout the year, so it is strongly recommended that anyone interested submit their work as soon as possible. The deadline for this round of submissions is June 17, 2019.
If your writing is selected, you will be contacted directly. Submissions will be selected by The Gateway’s Managing Editor, Editor in Chief, and Art Director.
If you have any questions, please direct them to the Managing Editor, Christine McManus, at [email protected].
We look forward to reading your submissions,
The Gateway
