Drug-delivering grafts would make islet transplants safer, accessible to more people with diabetes: A U of A research team has received a grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to test anti-rejection drug delivering graft materials to make islet transplants safer for people with diabetes.

New Precision Human Health Lab will explore how people with chronic diseases can get the most benefit from exercise: To better understand how such effects happen and how to help people cope, a new U of A Precision Human Health Laboratory will help researchers investigate techniques to improve patients’ exercise tolerance and cardiovascular health, and expand the use of exercise as a clinical tool.

Free school supplies have people waiting in line for hours: Dan Johnstone hosts a “We’re Here for Ya Day” to help struggling families with food, school supplies and haircuts before the new school year. This year saw people waiting in line overnight. Should more civilians be doing this act of charity? Or should the onus fall on Edmontonians or on someone else? Should more of these services be available to post-secondary students? Write a piece on what you think about this topic!

According to the CBC, the U of A is set to have a record-high amount of international students - international students will account for 20 per cent of the school’s undergraduate population. What does this mean for campus culture? Is this going to impact domestic students’ admission or tuition? Or is the U of A going to remain exactly the same? Share your thoughts!

Free Online Courses at the U of A: the U of A has launched their Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), allowing U of A students, students from other institutions, and members of the community to take free online courses at the U of A. Is this a positive program, that’s making a great impact in the community? Or is it frustrating for U of A students that the university is offering free courses to people not associated with the U of A while hiking tuition rates? Give us your take!

Campus Food banks: The CBC reports that Alberta’s campus food banks are expecting increased demand from students due to high tuition, inflated grocery prices, and generally high cost of living. Should the university be concerned for the well-being of its students? What can students be doing to help? What can even be done? Share your opinion!
