Researchers from the department of psychology and the department of engineering are programming robots to work side by side with humans in dynamic work environments by responding to cues in body language.

The researchers found that the COVID-19 pandemic was not associated with changes in the frequency of outpatient follow-up or medication dispensations but was associated with improved continuity of care for patients.

Boyle Street movement: Boyle Street’s lease is up, and they’ve been struggling to relocate as the building they’re supposed to be moving into isn’t ready yet. In the meantime, Boyle Street is moving into four different locations in order to continue to provide its services without interruption. However, this is causing confusion and anxiety among Boyle Street clients. Due to plans to redevelop the space Boyle Street currently occupies, the rumours are that they are being pushed out because of the Oilers Entertainment Group. Does this mean Edmontonians are prioritizing the wrong thing? Write a piece on your thoughts about the Boyle Street move!

Drug poisoning in Edmonton: In the first half of 2023, Edmonton saw over 300 drug poisoning deaths. Clearly, opioid use in our city continues to be a problem. Is the City doing enough in harm reduction? If not, what should be done instead? Is this a concern for students? What should students know and be advocating for in order to help protect ourselves and each other from accidental drug poisoning?

Dwindling doctor availability: Early this year saw alarming wait times at hospitals for Albertans, and it doesn’t seem to be improving. Recently, the Primary Care Network released statistics saying that doctor availability has drastically decreased. Alberta’s healthcare system is being put under more and more strain, even as COVID-19 becomes less and less of a concern. What does this mean for Alberta’s healthcare system? Who’s to blame? What should the government be doing?

Sovereignty Act may be used: Premier Danielle Smith says she may use Alberta’s Sovereignty Act to challenge a net-zero electricity grid the federal government may impose. Smith says it won’t be a reliable system for Albertans and isn’t realistically attainable in 12 years. Should Albertans be pushing against a net-zero plan? Or would using the Sovereignty Act not be in Albertan’s best interests?

Point/counterpoint - Horror movies: Do you love horror movies? Or do you hate them? Do you love the creepiness of horror movies during spooky season, or would you rather spend spooky season doing more lighthearted activities? Pick up one side of this point/counterpoint article and convince us why or why not you think watching horror movies is an absolute must this October.

Exhibit Review: want and fear

FAB Gallery Main Floor, October 10 – November 03, 2023

Tuesday to Friday from 11:00am–5:00pm, Saturday from 12:00pm–3:00pm

want and fear, is about mortality, choice, and longing as those constructs relate to the human experience and our contemporary age. More specifically, this body of work explores how these themes manifest in private and personal experiences, told through auto-biographical visual narrative. But, want and fear also speaks to anxiety on a macrocosmic level. The work deals in contradictions – as anxiety and choice-making are often accompanied by contradictory feelings.

About the Artist: Emily Legleitner is an MFA student in printmaking at the University of Alberta, Edmonton. Her research examines auto-biographical experiences and emotions associated with anxiety, mortality, choice making, and the human condition.”

Exhibit Review: Implicit Grid

FAB Gallery Main Floor, October 10 – November 03, 2023

Tuesday to Friday from 11:00am–5:00pm, Saturday from 12:00pm–3:00pm

“The Implicit Grid encompasses a collection of artworks that center around inherent sensitivities and the use of repetition to foster a conducive mental ambiance. It grapples with questions such as 'How does the eye visually experience a touch?' and 'How does one visually interpret a sound?'.

From the lens of a visitor and newcomer to Canada, Edmonton (Treaty 6 Territory) has generously offered visual discoveries of repetition in daily observations of land and architecture. Drawing from my knowledge as a Kathak dancer, this body of work conceptually informs and integrates my practice with these observations.

About the Artist: Riddhi Patel is a visual artist and a newcomer in Edmonton, situated on Treaty 6 Territory. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts with a specialization in Painting from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India.”
