Growing Population: Edmonton’s population is expected to grow within the next three years, after the population increased 10% from 2021-2023. With this in mind, is the city ready to accommodate our growing population? What kind of infrastructure is needed? Should the city focus on maintenance of existing structures and services, or work on building new ones? Write about what you think can be done to help Edmonton’s growing population.
U of A Google Storage: Google is now charging for storage, leading U of A members to have limited storage in their Google Suite. Going forward, things like Drive, Gmail, and more will be capped at 10GB per student. Non-academic staff will have 15 GB, and academic staff will have 30GB. Write an article on your thoughts - is this reasonable, or is this creating a barrier for students and staff?
Ramadan accommodations with the university: With the start of Ramadan, many U of A students will be working their religious traditions around their day to day lives. However, the university isn’t always the most accommodating. Write an article on the accommodations the university has been providing for Muslim students, and what they could be doing better to support these students even more.
Burlap Sack - Course Registration: Course registration for the 2024-25 school year is coming up soon, and if you’ve gone through this process before, you know how much of a hassle it can be. Write a burlap sack about the agonizing process of enrolling in courses on Beartracks — from having to enroll early in the morning, to having the site crash when you hit “enroll.” Air your grievances here!
Point/Counterpoint - Final Exams vs Final Projects: We’re nearing the end of the semester where students are cramming to work on their final projects or studying for their exams. When it comes to end-of-semester assignments do you think a final exam is better during the exam period, or a final project/paper due on the last day of classes? Pick up one side of this argument and say which one you prefer and why!
