Core courses set up students for success in work and life: A series of seminars at the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus are designed to get students “thinking about a topic from several angles.” Brian Rempel, a Augustana science professor, helped design the curriculum and currently teaches some of the classes.

U of A to share expertise, equipment to foster Alberta's burgeoning health technology industry: The Alberta government is giving $15 million in funding to the health technology industry. A grant of $1,853,750 is going to ST Innovations, a business arm of the U of A’s Smart Network. Vivian Mushahwar, a professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry is the director of SMART Network and ST Innovations.

University of Alberta researchers are repurposing handheld lactic acid testing devices that were originally developed for endurance athletes in North America as a tool to save the lives of critically-ill children in sub-Saharan Africa: In recently published research the team suggests the device could be widely used as a simple triage tool to identify the sickest children in need of the most urgent care."

University of Alberta club places third in international robotics competition: The student-run Autonomous Robotic Vehicle Project recently returned from an international student marine robotics competition called Robosub 2023, in which they finished third out of 35 post-secondary institutions for their most-recent project, called Arctos, a robotic submarine capable of cruising through water, shooting torpedos and picking up objects.

Reed’s Bazaar, Fort Edmonton Park, until September 17, Wednesday through Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This new exhibition at Fort Edmonton Park shows visitors the history of goji berries in the city as it intersects with Chinese history. Yong Fei Guan, who is currently in the U of A Masters of Fine Arts program, has created participatory artwork that showcases the parallel displacement and rerooting of this plant and the Chinese community in Edmonton. Visit the artist at one of the tea conversations every Friday in August from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and write about what you learn!

FAB Gallery, 1-1 Fine Arts Building, University of Alberta, August 29 to September 3

This FAB art gallery show is curated by Chris Reyns-Chikuma, and it includes the works of Bettina Egger, Bharat Murthy, and Adrien Veczan. It displays three "comics"— a graphic narrative book, comic strip, and comic “book” magazines, placed on the ceiling, floor, and walls.
