Stacking firefighters on the front line of a wildfire critical in first hours: U of A study: As wildfires become more common amid hot, dry conditions around the world, a new data analysis model from the University of Alberta found one particular strategy is key in the crucial first hours of a moderately difficult wildfire: loading the front lines with more firefighters.

Recent trends in the chemistry of major northern rivers signal widespread Arctic change, a new study shows. Suzanne E. Tank from the U of A’s department of biological sciences is an author on this research study.

University of Alberta club places third in international robotics competition: The student-run Autonomous Robotic Vehicle Project recently returned from an international student marine robotics competition called Robosub 2023, in which they finished third out of 35 post-secondary institutions for their most-recent project, called Arctos, a robotic submarine capable of cruising through water, shooting torpedos and picking up objects.

Reed’s Bazaar, Fort Edmonton Park, until September 17, Wednesday through Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This new exhibition at Fort Edmonton Park shows visitors the history of goji berries in the city as it intersects with Chinese history. Yong Fei Guan, who is currently in the U of A Masters of Fine Arts program, has created participatory artwork that showcases the parallel displacement and rerooting of this plant and the Chinese community in Edmonton. Visit the artist at one of the tea conversations every Friday in August from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and write about what you learn!

Abassi’s work explores his ideas of self and home and how those are in combination with landscape and transformation.

Performance Review: SHE/THEY Fringe Show

August 17 to 20, and August 22 to 26, The Roxy Theatre, $18 per ticket

Write a review on this comedy-drama Fringe show created by Madi May and directed by Daisy Brazil, who are both University of Alberta students! The play follows Agnes Arnold, a famed feminist author who got cancelled and doxed over a transphobic Twitter rant, and her granddaughter Pearl as they debate their differing ideas on feminism and gender.
