August Pitches

All. New. August. Pitches. And Folk Fest.

What time is it? IT'S ARTS 'N CULTURE PITCHES TIME!

Hey cool kids, how's it hanging? Time to feed Ye Olde Pitch Machine.

It's time to start gearing up for August, even though we're only midway through July. What can I say? I like to look ahead into The Twilight Zone. Look at all these fun-ass stories, my dude. Look at them. And then email me to tell me you want to write about them or pitch your ideas to me by sending lovely lovely emails to [email protected]. (You can also reply to this email or tap the little green email button at the bottom of this message.) Books, movies, music, art, theatre, events, food, drinks, video games, demon-summoning techniques, apple-bobbing stories, you name it, dawg. I'm open to it aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall.By the way, you can still pitch me for July because, well, it's still July for another few weeks. And many of you have been, which is great! Do even more of that. Love hearing your ideas ♥

FOLK FEST 2017 IS NEARLY UPON US!!!

Boi. If you want to be one of the lucky writers/photogs who heads into the mystic to cover Folk Fest for The Gateway this year during August 10-13, email me ASAP. We have

3 open spots

right now out of four (1 for a photographer and 2 for writers/reviewers), but there have been rumblings from all sides about interest for some time now.

The first emailers to slide into my well-kept and closely monitored inbox gets the remaining slots.

Accreditation forms are due July 21 to the organizers, so hop to it.

ALSO! If you want to interview some performers, we can apply for opportunities to do that, too. Check out the full festival lineup

.

And it's also almost time for the FRINGE FESTIVAL!!!

The legendary theatre festival is back for year thirty-six, and this time it's running August 17-27. Check out dope one-acts, review 'em, talk to the performers, and tell us all about the epic talents on display this season.

One time I saw a one-act on Britney Spears at the Fringe. As you might expect, it was a very fun time. Best line: "That girl's seen more shaft than an elevator

So goes the tale of the Death Note.

Netflix is set to release its remake of the classic, nay, legen...wait for it...DARY anime/manga

this August. Wanna review it and judge how Netflix's non-Japanese adaptation of a pretty Japanese story holds up against the original? Wondering if these live actors can do the animated version or the beautiful art of the drawn series justice? Looking to just watch some new Netflix thing before the last gasps of summer leave you? Whether you love Death Note or have never heard of it, that doesn't matter. What does matter: Wanna see if it's a decent standalone watch? Hit me up.

Meaghan Smith wants to write your song.

From the press release: "JUNO-award- winning singer-songwriter Meaghan Smith is back, with a project called

. Despite the commercial and critical success of her last album, going out on tour as a major label artist no longer resonated with her. She still wanted the connection that making music provides, and after a life-altering experience, she wondered whether she could find the connection she craved more directly—and Our Song was born." Does that pique your interest? Talk to her about the project and write about it..

What are your Top 5...

  • Ice cream hangouts?

  • Cancelled summer music festivals?

  • Creepypasta pages for freaking yourself out late at night because for some reason so many horrifying things happen on quiet, dark summer nights...?
