Wazzaaaaaaap! Here's your weekly post-meeting arts and culture pitch email. (ICYMI: Arts & Culture meetings are Tuesdays in SUB 3-04 at 3:00 PM.)Also, here's your weekly reminder to pitch me any ideas you have! I'd love to hear them. Especially for the following columns:

• Brew Crew/Vino Bitches: A fun, 150- to 350-word review of your favourite (or not-so-favourite) beer, wine, or other alcoholic beverage of choice.

• Noodle Nation: Who loves noodles? You (might) love noodles. Write 450 to 500 words on your favourite noodle (ramen, pho, other long stringy flour-y food) haunts for this column.

• DatApp: Have an app that’s been a game- or life-changer? Wax eloquently about it (or a few of your favourites) in a short 150- to 350-word installment for this column.

• Top 5: Top 5 study spots, places to cry in public, late-night post-exam diners...you name it, you can write a Top 5 on it! 50-200 words per Thing In The Top 5.

• Emoji of the Week: This one’s self-explanatory. Trawl your recently used emojis and sing praise about it and why other people should worship it as The Best Emoji too.

• Fashion Streeters: If you love walking up to people and asking them about their cool outfits, this one’s for you. Q & A format. Consider pairing up with a photo volunteer or taking your own pics!

• Doin’ You: Everyone has something they do exceptionally well. Wanna teach others your wizardry? Walk us step-by-step through the process of a master for this column.

• Playlists: Have killer musical taste? Share it on The Gateway with a curated playlist.

• Group Commentaries/Roundtables: Grab a bunch of friends and do a collaborative article where you all contribute your input on a single topic, whether that’s a new film, album, or book.

Review: LitFest 2017!

LitFest, Canada’s original nonfiction festival, runs October 12-22 at various locations in Edmonton’s downtown core. Featuring dozens of authors, the 11-day festival is a platform for enriching conversations of all stripes, from the ethics of reviving extinct species, to tales of wanderlust and exploration, to examining the most pressing political divides of our time. Attendees can also expect: Nonfiction writing workshops, casual and intimate event locations with food tastings, our wildly popular Story Slam battle, lively cabaret performances and more. Review: Lilies Day @ the University of Alberta

The U of A's Canadian Literature Centre and the Sound Studies Initiative are teaming up with Edmonton Opera to bring the world-class artists who created the new opera Lilies to campus October 20! "Lilies Day" features a pair of free events: First, the CLC hosts​ librettist and playwright Michel Marc Bouchard for a special​ reading in their Brown Bag Lunch​ series at noon on October 20th. Then at 2:00 pm, the Sound Studies Initiative hosts an interactive listening event exploring the musical inspirations behind the opera. This Sound Session is led by ethnomusicologist Dr. Julia Byl, and features Lilies ​composer Kevin March.

The band have signed a record deal with Dine Alone and just delivered this brand-new album. The group is one of our Managing Editor's favourites! Album review: Sabrina Claudio's About Time

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Sabrina Claudio has unveiled About Time, the first collection of songs to follow her celebrated debut EP Confidently Lost. The new project About Time, which features twelve sultry-yet-powerful original songs written by Sabrina, is now available at all digital music retailers and streaming services. (I own this EP; it's beautiful. Review it!)

Album review: Liam Gallagher's As You Were

After igniting the writing process with the heavy duty soul-rock of ‘Bold’, ‘As You Were’ was recorded in two locations. The result is exactly what you would have hoped a Liam Gallagher solo album would sound like: the passion for the classic 60's/70's influence that he’s always had has been updated for the here and now.
