 S I Z Z L I N': Arts & Culture Pitches

What time is it? IT'S ARTS 'N CULTURE PITCHES TIME!

reading week is over but this email is just beginning

And with the end of reading week comes a crap-ton of stories ripe for the taking! Have some pitches via your weekly post-meeting arts and culture email. (ICYMI: Arts & Culture meetings are Tuesdays in SUB 3-04 at 3:00 PM.)Also, here's your weekly reminder to pitch me any ideas you have! I'd love to hear them. Especially for the following columns:

  • Diss Track: Are there 3-4 songs that grind your gears in the worst way possible? Diss the crap out of them in this column.

  • Brew Crew/Vino Bitches: A fun, 150- to 350-word review of your favourite (or not-so-favourite) beer, wine, or other alcoholic beverage of choice.

  • Noodle Nation: Who loves noodles? You (might) love noodles. Write 450 to 500 words on your favourite noodle (ramen, pho, other long stringy flour-y food) haunts for this column.

  • DatApp: Have an app that’s been a game- or life-changer? Wax eloquently about it (or a few of your favourites) in a short 150- to 350-word installment for this column.

  • Top 5: Top 5 study spots, places to cry in public, late-night post-exam diners...you name it, you can write a Top 5 on it! 50-200 words per Thing In The Top 5.

  • Emoji of the Week: This one’s self-explanatory. Trawl your recently used emojis and sing praise about it and why other people should worship it as The Best Emoji too.

  • Fashion Streeters: If you love walking up to people and asking them about their cool outfits, this one’s for you. Q & A format. Consider pairing up with a photo volunteer or taking your own pics!

  • Doin’ You: Everyone has something they do exceptionally well. Wanna teach others your wizardry? Walk us step-by-step through the process of a master for this column.

  • Playlists: Have killer musical taste? Share it on The Gateway with a curated playlist.

  • ...AND MORE! You can also pitch me your own column ideas if you want to write your own or if you've seen any awesome movies/heard any music/read any books/played any games/eaten any food etc., let me know.

Lemme know at [email protected] if these pique your interest.

And read on for this week's 很好 pitches.

Album review: Teenage Head's Fun Comes Fast

On Friday, Canadian punk rock pioneers Teenage Head will release Fun Comes Fast, a double album of songs spanning the group’s 40-year career. The band formed in Ontario in 1975, and their live shows became infamous for inciting apocalyptic reaction from audiences across the country. Their 1978 show at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto ended in a riot! Sound interesting? Review the album!

Album review: Sia's Everyday Is Christmas

And every day really IS Christmas when Sia releases a holiday album for your festive activities. You might know Sia from her Grammy-nominated 2016 album This Is Acting and her status as one of today’s biggest stars and sought after live performers, or you might know her as that lady who never performs showing her face and hates being famous Either way, review the album (and get it free)!

Album review: Barenaked Ladies's Fake Nudes

Fake Nudes

finds the long-standing partnership of Ed Robertson (guitar, vocals), Jim Creeggan (bass, vocals), Kevin Hearn (keyboard, guitar, vocals) and Tyler Stewart (drums, vocals) in top form, capturing the rock icons’ incredible camaraderie and musicianship that stand as a testament to the band’s remarkable longevity.
