gettin jiggy w it
It's elections season and Oscars season and there's so much to write about! So! Have some pitches via your weekly post-meeting arts and culture email. ICYMI: Arts & Culture meetings are Tuesdays in SUB 3-04 at 4:00-5:00 PM!Also, here's your weekly reminder to pitch me any ideas you have! I'd love to hear them. Especially for the following columns:
Diss Track: Are there 3-4 songs that grind your gears in the worst way possible? Diss the crap out of them in this column.
Brew Crew/Vino Bitches: A fun, 150- to 350-word review of your favourite (or not-so-favourite) beer, wine, or other alcoholic beverage of choice.
Noodle Nation: Who loves noodles? You (might) love noodles. Write 450 to 500 words on your favourite noodle (ramen, pho, other long stringy flour-y food) haunts for this column.
DatApp: Have an app that’s been a game- or life-changer? Wax eloquently about it (or a few of your favourites) in a short 150- to 350-word installment for this column.
Top 5: Top 5 study spots, places to cry in public, late-night post-exam diners...you name it, you can write a Top 5 on it! 50-200 words per Thing In The Top 5.
Emoji of the Week: This one’s self-explanatory. Trawl your recently used emojis and sing praise about it and why other people should worship it as The Best Emoji too.
Fashion Streeters: If you love walking up to people and asking them about their cool outfits, this one’s for you. Q & A format. Consider pairing up with a photo volunteer or taking your own pics!
Doin’ You: Everyone has something they do exceptionally well. Wanna teach others your wizardry? Walk us step-by-step through the process of a master for this column.
Playlists: Have killer musical taste? Share it on The Gateway with a curated playlist.
...AND MORE! You can also pitch me your own column ideas if you want to write your own or if you've seen any awesome movies/heard any music/read any books/played any games/eaten any food etc., let me know.
Lemme know at [email protected] if these pique your interest.
And read on for this week's 很好 pitches.

Gateway hiring is coming up
. If you'd like to be next year's Arts & Culture Editor (it's fun and I'd really recommend it), I highly encourage you to diversify your writing by taking different types of stories, writing for different sections, and, if you have any questions at all about the job or just want to know my opinions on cheese, feel free to hit me up. Show review: Opening Night of Children of God - March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Citadel's Shoctor Theatre
OPENING NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT! These are so much fun and you get great seats. Attend the show and bring a guest! In this powerful musical, the children of an Oji-Cree family are sent to a residential school in Northern Ontario. This is a story of redemption: for a mother who was never let past the school’s gate, and her kids, who never knew she came. Children of God offers a thrilling blend of ancient traditions and contemporary realities, celebrating resilience and the power of the Indigenous cultural spirit. THE DRAW: Inspired by First Nations music, Payette’s moving score also includes echoes of Broadway masterpieces such as Fun Home and Next to Normal.Wanna see it? Let me know! We have to RSVP by tomorrow, so if you want this, email me ASAP!

Interview: Karac Hendricks @ Shakers Roadhouse
Edmonton-based and ACMA award-nominated country artist Karac Hendriks is currently gearing up for the release of his new album available for download and streaming tomorrow, March 2. Karac will be hosting an album release party (in support of Music Heals) in Edmonton this Sunday, March 4 at Shakers Roadhouse (15004 Yellowhead Trail, Edmonton, AB T5V 1A1) from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., and he'd love to talk 2 U about his music. So: Talk to him!

Miscellaneous: S! U! Elections! Season!
SU elections are here, as you may or may not know from the bajillion signs around campus! I'd love to see some funny and/or creative writing about the elections (think: Mad Libs-style fill-in-the-blank speeches, a listicle with a theme song for every candidate, a MEME for every candidate, and more). There's SO MUCH OPPORTUNITY HERE FOR FUN,. GUYS. If you have any ideas at all or want to take one of my suggestions, please pitch me -- I'd love to hear what you might have up your sleeve(s)! Pitch me!

Interview/show review: DCF @ Winspear on March 29
Pop artist DCF is going to be hitting the road with Lights, supporting her 46-date North American Tour. He’s going to be playing at the Winspear Centre on March 29. DCF (David Charles Fischer) has become known for his interpretations of some of the most recognizable millennial hits with a series of online mixtapes. Now he’s gearing up to release his own debut LP, which will be coming out later this year. Interview him and/or review the show!

Miscellaneous: The Oscars
The Academy Awards are on Sunday, March 4. We've already got some volunteers doing a post-show breakdown, but if you'd like to do Oscar PREDICTIONS, or takes on movies that should have been nominated but weren't, I'd totally be down to see what thoughts you have. This can be collaborative pieces or you can go ham and cheese on your favourite categories yourself, but either way, let me know and we can arrange something. So, as always, this is an open call to pitch me!
