~*~ July Gateway Arts Pitches!!! ~*~
It's July, which means it's time for pitches. (It's always time for pitches.)
Hellooo, arts volunteers!
It's me, Victoria, the 2017-18 Arts Editor. I've actually been trying to reach you all for the last couple of months, but my listserv has temporarily (permanently?) crapped out. So. Welcome to The Future, or the new way of doing these pitch emails!Below I've curated some pitches for people, books, albums, festivals, and other topics/subjects/stories I think would be g.o.o.d. for The Gateway. Of course, I'm always open to other ideas, too, and this Mailchimp template can only fit so many content blocks at once anyway, so please do pitch me your ideas if you have stories you want to write and things you want to cover (novels, podcasts, concerts, drinks, restaurants, video games, music, theatre productions, movies, et cetera et cetera et cetera) that I haven't listed here! I'm always receptive to new pitches and would love to read yours, so please don't be afraid to reach out at any time. And if you have any questions, too, email me. That said, here are the pitches I'm including on this email:
Martin Kerr
In the words of his publicist, this UK-born musician has been a staple of the Edmonton music scene for years 'n years. He sold out The Winspear recently, plays upwards of 150 shows a year, and would love to chat with you about music. If you want to chat music too, l e t m e k n o w ~
New Minds by Pink Frost
They're described as "90s alt-rock without the guilt." Review it. Interview the band. You know the drill.
Chamber Music Old and New Festival
Eclecticism!!! Attend this show on Sunday and tell me how it impacted ur soul. Or didn't. Either way.
Taste of Edmonton and the Canadian Food Championships
IT'S FESTIVAL SEASON and you're welcome to cover this or any other festivals coming up this summer. Shoot me an email if there's one you've got your heart set on.
Spider-Man: Homecoming
With the number of times they've replaced Spider-Man, my expectations that this guy will stick around are kind of nebulous. This movie's coming out July 7. Wanna cover it? Email me.
Hunger by Roxane Gay
The author of Bad Feminist is back at it with the already-NYT-best-selling words. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Woodstock by Portugal. The Man
We got a free copy of this. It's here. It's waiting for you. It's a review waiting to happen.
Melodrama by Lorde
Lorde has emerged from the depths of NZ to produce this sophomore album. Does it live up to Pure Heroine or nah?
General E3 Stuff
If you have a game you want to review that's already been released or will be released in the coming months, hit me up. Would love to see your honest thoughts on some of the stuff that's out there/will be out there.
