Have a blast with these A&C pitches!

Hello peeps!

Hope everyone is staying as warm as you can this week! It is a pretty stressful time for everyone as finals are fast approaching, but remember we are almost at the finish line!

Here's some announcements for the next couple of weeks:

  • We're looking for members of our AntiFreeze team! It's gonna go from Jan 9 to 14. You don't have to come for all of the events. Email Emily ([email protected]) if you're interested.

  • We're having a holiday social for the end of the semester next Mon Dec 5, 4pm. We'll be sending out the pitch emails instead of doing the pitch meeting.

    • Potluck style: everyone's encouraged to bring a snack for the social but you don't have to

    • Activities: board games, Christmas music, and snacks!

    • RSVP here so we can bring enough snacks for everyone

As we get closer to the holiday season lots of cool events are happening on and off campus. Consider taking one of the pitches and take a break from studying to check out what is going on in the city!

Illustration Pitches O_O

Good news for fellow illustrators! We got some new pitches for y'all, both in our online and print formats. If you have questions on any of these, let Arthur know by emailing him.

Since Arthur knows not all volunteers at The Gateway are artists and y'all may have friends who dabble in the arts, sharing these to them would help us out a lot!

Where:

published online

When:

no particular due date, open year-round

What:

illustrations that are not necessarily an accompaniment to any of our written articles

Who:

currently for The Gateway volunteers or any current student enrolled in the U of A

Although our magazine run is cut short, we're currently building up a space on the site to house all your cool artworks. Submissions may include, but are not limited to, illustrations (traditional or digital) and comics.

Submission requirements sent to Arthur ([email protected]) and Emily, our Editor-in-Chief ([email protected]):

  • .jpg or .png version of your illustration

  • artwork title

  • the date when you created said illustration

  • an artist statement about the artwork

  • art portfolio and blurb about art experience, if you haven't submitted one to Arthur yet

Where:

on our print newspaper for the winter semester

When:

What:

preferably any comics about campus current events, political cartoons (which is what we used to do), or just silly things about being in the UofA

Who:

currently for The Gateway volunteers or any current student enrolled in the U of A

We're planning on including two max on our print newspaper, which will be on our newsstands by the start of the winter semester. The remaining submitted comics that won't make the cut are eligible to be published on our site in the same place for the general illustration submissions.

Submission requirements sent to Arthur ([email protected]) and Emily, our Editor-in-Chief ([email protected]):

  • rough sketch with appropriate comic formatting (at the very least) or a finished comic (preferred)

  • comic title

  • brief explanation of the comic (especially if you submit a rough sketch)

  • art portfolio and blurb about art experience, if you haven't submitted one to Arthur yet
