Hi everyone!This is Jin, one half of your deputy Arts & Culture editors for this spring. Areeha and I are so excited to get this section rolling again! We won't be having pitch meetings just yet, but we have pitch emails to tide us over until then.Hopefully everyone is enjoying the weather, even with the rain and snow. Spring semester can be a bit of a drag whether or not you have classes, so make sure to take some time to relax and let loose!We've got a ton of great pitches this week, so take a gander! If one catches your eye, just reply to this email and let us know which one you're interested in. We can't wait to read your words!Here are the recurring columns:
The Hobby Hole: Tell us about any unique hobbies you have or give a fresh take on an old favourite. It could be a passion project or an activity you do when you want to lay back, unplug your brain, and watch the hours fly by.
Paddling up the Livestream: Wax lyrical about your favourite livestreams, put us onto some hidden-away gems, or give your hot-takes on livestream culture!
The First Time: Try something totally new and write about your experience. It could be a cuisine you’ve heard great things about, an unfamiliar type of music, or an activity you've never tried before. Tell us about it all from the POV of a complete novice.
Dream Team: Write about your ultimate dream collab! It might be a Stephen King children’s books series or a Billie Eilish x Tyler, the Creator supergroup. Tell us what makes your dream team such a gamechanger.

Exploring Edmonton: Do you know any cool places around Edmonton that people should visit? Write about them in this new series!
Lunch Break: An Arts & Culture series where we share fun recipes with humorous commentary. It's wholesome and lowkey, so check it out and send an installment over!
Brew Crew/Vino Bitches: A fun, short review of your favourite (or not-so-favourite) beers, wines, or other alcoholic beverages of choice.
Noodle Nation: Who loves noodles? You (might) love noodles! Write a column on your favourite noodles or noodle haunts.

Double Take: Love spitting fire-hot takes on pop culture? You and a friend (or foe) can team up to write opposing takes on some piece of art/entertainment/media.

The kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre at MacEwan University has announced the release of a 15-track collection of Cree prayer and meditation. Featuring the sound of the drum, flute, rattle, voice, and nature, this album aims to connect the listener with their inner peace and the Earth. If you're interested in doing a review of this album and optionally attending the album launch webinar panel next week on May 26, let us know!
The weather this week seems good *knocks on wood* and Edmonton's cherry blossoms are in full bloom! There's various locations to see them, but some suggestions include River Valley, Alberta Legislature Grounds, and Victoria Promenade. Let us know if you're interested in getting out there and doing a photo story!
Edmonton-born painter Tim Okamura featured at the New York Historical Society Museum & LibraryOkamura's painting Nurse Tracy of RN Tracey-Ann Knight, DNP, is a part of the Dreaming Together exhibit, a collaboration between the New-York Historical Society and Asia Society Museum. Let us know if you're interested in a Q&A with Okamura about himself and his artwork!
Experience the magic of the city's core with three different multi-disciplinary displays of digital art in the Arts District! The Winspear Centre's display connects with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Citadel Theatre foucusses on developing theatre projects, and the Art Gallery of Alberta's Sidewalk Cinema will feature a variety of art experiences. These exhibits are open until May 31. Let us know if you're interested in writing about your experience going, or a photo story documenting your visit!
There's plenty of murals, statues, and other public art around the city. Take your pick from pieces like the Talus Dome and the Vaulted Willow; tell us what you love (or hate) about these public displays of art!
