Arts and Culture Pitches!

These pitches will light up your inbox!

Hey y'all! It's Jin here!
Maybe these jokes go over everyone's heads and I'll never find out. But it's okay, I'll make dew anyway!
If anyone is interested in joining a Discord,
is the link! We're still planning out how we want to use it, but it'll be used in a more casual manner than Slack is currently. Ideally, we'll have more frequent casual socials on Discord in the future! No pressure to join though; the Discord will not be used for anything related to actual work.
Also, if you're interested in doing a deputy editorship over the summer, this is the time to check it out! The
posting is here, but make sure to check out all the postings! Applications will be accepted until May 27 at midnight, so you've got time :)
Although Edmonton is rainy and gloomy, there are a variety of pitches to brighten up your week!
And without further ado, the pitches!
Pitches for the Week:

Attend the launch of Voluntary Detours: Small-Town and Rural Museums in Alberta! Happening on May 28 beginning at 2 p.m., Lianne McTavish will be launching their newest book via livestream! This book was inspired by visiting hundreds of small, unique, and engaging local museums throughout Alberta. McTavish is a professor at the U of A.I would look highly favourably upon a volunteer taking this pitch, as I will be out of town and cannot cover this myself. Let me know if you're interested and I'll pass along the information about the launch!

Interview Maria Dunn! Dunn is an Edmonton musician who was recently the recipient of a Juno Award for Traditional Roots Album of the Year. Her album, Joyful Banner Blazing, celebrates stories of resilience and grace through songs of family, community and the love that fires our actions to make the world a better place.Let me know if you're interested in talking to Dunn!

Two new exhibits are opening today and run until June 3!
Emily Hayes presents
a tension
, which references her personal history and intergenerational trauma to explore how trauma is multifaceted and affects individuals, families, and communities.
Heather Savard presents
PATTERN 2451
, which is based on a tea set Savard received from her grandmother and the experience of packing things up and moving away, exploring the duty to safekeep but guilt of discarding.
Let me know if you're planning to visit either of these exhibits and if you'd like to talk to Hayes or Savard!

Review Elizabeth: A Portrait in Real Part(s)!This is a documentary that is composed entirely of archival footage of Queen Elizabeth II, documenting her journey from a young girl to the longest-reigning British monarch. If you're looking for an informative documentary of Queen Elizabeth II, this might be up your alley! Let me know if you'd like to review it — the showing date is May 25 and 28, so the first draft will have to be in by the end of the week.

Interview someone involved with SHED | knowing each other as different and the same!Coming to Mile Zero Dance on June 3 and 4, SHED | knowing each other as different and the same presents the work of Pam Tzeng and features a collection of moving portraits. If you're interested in previewing the event, let me know and I will pursue an interview with someone involved!

Preview new exhibits at the Art Gallery of Alberta! The two new exhibits: Manuel Mathieu: World Discovered Under Other Skies, and Pay de Devil - Brang! Brang! - Pay de Devil will be opened on May 27 at 7:30 to 9:00 p.m..Manuel Mathieu: World Discovered Under Other Skies unearths the traumas of state violence in Haiti. Pay de Devil - Brang!
