Hey everyone, Jin here!
We're in the last stretch of summer classes, and getting ready to go back! Pick up a pitch while things are still on the down-low!
Sadly I ran out of CD puns. Who could've guessed there's only so many words that sound like "CD?" I've probably cas-sette some kind of "number of puns in student journalism newsletter" record anyway.
It's CD (seedy) how long I've stalled, so here are your pitches for this week! It's mostly leftovers, so feel free to pitch me an article idea!
Recurring Columns:
The Hobby Hole: Tell us about any unique hobbies you have or give a fresh take on an old favourite. It could be a passion project or an activity you do when you want to lay back, unplug your brain, and watch the hours fly by.
Paddling up the Livestream: Wax lyrical about your favourite livestreams, put us onto some hidden-away gems, or give your hot-takes on livestream culture!
The First Time: Try something totally new and write about your experience. It could be a cuisine you’ve heard great things about, an unfamiliar type of music, or an activity you've never tried before. Tell us about it all from the POV of a complete novice.
Dream Team: Write about your ultimate dream collab! It might be a Stephen King children’s books series or a Billie Eilish x Tyler, the Creator supergroup. Tell us what makes your dream team such a gamechanger.

Lunch Break: An Arts & Culture series where we share fun recipes with humorous commentary. It's wholesome and lowkey, so check it out and send an installment over!
Brew Crew/Vino Bitches: A fun, short review of your favourite (or not-so-favourite) beers, wines, or other alcoholic beverages of choice.
Noodle Nation: Who loves noodles? You (might) love noodles! Write a column on your favourite noodles or noodle haunts.

Attend Fringe Theatre's "Together We Fringe!"The event will be running from August 12 - 22, and is in celebration of Edmonton Fringe's 40th anniversary. There will be live and digital programming for a variety of events, and tickets have gone live today!Let me know if you're interested in attending, or interviewing someone involved!
intermission is the 2021 BFA grad show, and it is still available to be viewed! Featuring 17 graduates and their work, this exhibit is available for view online showcasing a variety of mediums and pieces from each artist.

U of A professor's artifacts to be included in UNESCO program!Professor Violet Archer taught in the music department from 1962 until her retirement in 1978. Composing over 300 pieces of work in her lifetime, she has been selected to be a part of the Canada Memory of the World Register. The Canada Memory of the World Register is partnered with UNESCO to recognize meaningful documents in humanity's history. This is the first time an Albertan institution will be included.Interview someone at the University of Alberta Archives about this!
Check out Edmonton Folk Music Festival’s Hill at Home 2021Enjoy a weekend of music, art, food, and song at home from 6:00 pm Friday, August 6 through to midnight, Sunday, August 8. There will be highlights like the lantern parade on Friday, August 6 at 9:30 p.m.Interview someone before the event or review how it went!
This installation at the gallery is a collection of dreams and wishes. It serves as a reminder that we can achieve what we put our minds to.
The exhibit is viewable from SNAP Gallery's window exhibition and will be hosted from July 24 to August 21. Let me know if you're interested in interviewing Godollei about the piece!
