Reading Week is in view! Although it might be difficult week for many of us, I hope that we all make it through the week and are able to take some time to rest next week.
We have some announcements for this week!
If you haven't already, make sure you fill out the Readership Survey!

Elections are coming up and The Gateway needs you!
This is a really great time to get involved with The Gateway and get experience with fast-paced writing and elections coverage in general! Training is taking place online next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you're interested in getting involved, email Jin and we will get you set up!
We will be takin a break from regular pitches after next week!
With elections coming up, we will be taking a break from regular pitch meetings and pitch emails until after UASU elections. Our last pitch email will be sent out next week!

TELUS World of Science has a new science centre!TELUS World of Science has just opened new and renovated spaces to the public including CuriousCITY, S.P.A.C.E. Gallery, The Nature Exchange, The Science Garage, and the Zeidler Dome. Let us know if you would be interested in checking out the new spaces and writing about your experience!
Attend "Art in Focus: A Conversation with Braxton Garneau!"Garneau is an emerging Edmonton artist and a U of A alum. In this talk with Nadia Kurd, curator of the University of Alberta Museums Art Collection, Garneau will talk about his art and artistic practices.The event will take place February 17 at 5:00 p.m.. Let us know if you're interested in attending and talking to Garneau!
Interview someone from Nimihitotân!Nimihitotân is an Indigenous-led monthly hip-hop workshop directed towards Edmonton’s Indigenous community. They act as an extra step or motivation to Indigenous people who want to learn how to dance or who need a community while navigating themselves in the community of dance that does not have much Indigenous visibility.Let us know if you’d like to talk to someone involved in Nimihitotân!
Review Compartment No. 6! This film is an offbeat drama that serves up some unusual twists when two strangers meet on a train from Moscow to the arctic port of Murmansk. The film is in Russian and Finnish with English subtitles.A 48 hour streaming link is available for review purposes. Must get a draft to me by February 17.
Check out Mayday!Icône Pop is from Montreal's most prolific choreographer, Melanie Demers. Presented by Mile Zero Dance, this performance is a playful clash between religious and pop iconographies, the sacred and the profane, saintly exultation and self-glorification.This live performance takes place within a distanced environment on February 18 and 19 at 8 p.m. inside the Army and Navy building. Let us know if you’d like to attend and interview someone involved.
Interview Ryan McMahon!Canadian singer-songwriter Ryan McMahon will be visiting Edmonton on March 8! He is also gearing up to release his newest single "One More Fire" on April 22.If you’d like to speak to McMahon, let us know!
Interview Arlo Maverick about the TELUS STORYHIVE Black Creators Edition!
Marlon Wilson, better known as Edmonton hip-hop artist Arlo Maverick, has been selected to receive a $20,000 fund! He will be using this money to produce an exciting documentary, The Untouchable Crew, to celebrate the local breakdance and hip-hop community. Maverick has been the centre of many of The Gateway’s articles in the past, and is a well-loved local artist.Let us know if you’d like to talk to Maverick about this exciting opportunity!
