Pitches to pick up before finals!

Hey everyone, Iman here!

I hope everyone's enjoying the warm weather, making it through the last week of the semester and preparing for finals! We're nearly done!

April 28 at 6 PM will be The Gateways Annual General Meeting (AGM)! This will include everything from elections, changes in our bylaws, and awards, along with a chance to socialize!

One last announcement! Our job postings will soon be up on The Gateway site under the job postings tab, be sure to check them out to get more involved with The Gateway!

Pitches for the Week:

Check out Celtic Illusion!This cross-country tour features Irish dance mixed with magic and illusions! They will be visiting Edmonton on April 11 at the Jubilee. Interview opportunities are available as well as media passes! Let us know if you’d be interested in an interview or interview + show!  

Interview someone from the Edmonton International Film Festival's showcase at the AGA!To raise money for Ukraine, the EIFF is presenting a special fundraiser with two screenings of 2020 EIFF Best Dramatic Film They Who Surround Us. Interview someone involved with this fundraiser ahead of April 13 and 16! 

Check out the Tanya Prochazka Tribute Recital!This is a piano concert happening on April 10 at Muttart Hall. Stéphane Lemelin is a former professor at the U of A and his recital will include work from Mozart, Schubert, and Beethoven. Tickets for students are $10, but we can try to get media passes if you'd like to go! Additionally, let us know if you’d like to speak to Lemelin! 

Check out Power of the Drum!This is a new dance/theatre production from Cuban Movements Dance Academy happening from April 8 to 17. This is a celebration of AfroCuban culture. Attendees will be taken on a journey that explores the harsh conditions endured by slaves in the sugarcane plantations, and witness the sacred dances of the Orichas, the Yoruban deities that brought power, protection, and resilience to them. Interviews with a producer and a choreographer are available on April 7 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.. 

Check out the new exhibits at the SNAP Gallery!New exhibitions are opening on April 9! Present Tense by University of Alberta Senior Level Printmaking Students and Ominous Silence by Xi Jin will be on display. Present Tense is a group exhibition of a culmination of a year’s work by students while Ominous Silence builds off an ancient Chinese fable and the consent of the letter ‘O.’You can check out just one, or both!

  • Brew Crew/Vino Bitches: A fun, short review of your favourite (or not-so-favourite) beers, wines, or other alcoholic beverages of choice.

  • Pot Thots: Write about your favourite strains, equipment, dispensaries, and more in our column on the world of legal weed.

  • Eating Edmonton: Write about your favourite (or not-so-favourite) local haunts in this miscellaneous foodie column. A great way to spotlight local restaurants in a time when they really need it!

  • DatApp: Have an app that’s been a gamechanger? Wax eloquently about it (or a few of your favourites) in this column.

  • Top 5: Top 5 streaming shows, places to cry in public, work-from-home tips...you name it, you can write a Top 5 on it!

  • Diss Track: Are there 3-4 songs that grind your gears in the worst way possible? Diss the crap out of them in this column.
