Arts & Culture November Notes Pitch!
Hey Everyone! I have some pitches for the November magazine! Disclaimer:
To write for the magazine you need to have written at least 5 pieces of regular content for the Gateway (aka be a GSJS member)!
These pitches are due on September 6th!
These pitches are for the notes section of the magazine. For those who don't know, the notes section is filled with fun, short, and sometimes interactive pieces with a word count of around 500-800 words! Pitches:
Top 10 Historical badasses: We would need to work on the student relevance for this one, but it would be a list of historical people who are admirable (focusing on lesser-known figures). I think one thing someone can do is interview professors/Ph.D. students at the UofA (history, WGS, etc.) or just focus on Canadian historical people. You could interview UofA students on who they think is a historical badass. There’s also a bunch of historical places in Edmonton, like Fort Edmonton Park, Royal Alberta Museum where you can scope out stuff as well. This one is still a work in progress, but, if you're interested or have a good idea, let me know!
Different candies/sweets from around the world: The premise is very simple, we would try various candies/sweets from around the world and rate them (similar to Lunch Break from last year). I'm thinking that we would gather in the couch room, then record and transcribe our thoughts, and then put the article together from there.
Which philosophical thinker is your daddy?: This one is a quiz, in a similar format to an early 2000s boy-band quiz from magazines like Seventeen or Tigerbeat. If you choose this pitch, you will need to work alongside our art director to find a format that will work in the magazine! It's a fun one!
That's all, folks! If anyone of these pitches interests you or if you have any questions or concerns, please email me ASAP! Thank you! Have a groovy
day
!
