Hello!
The Gateway, the University of Alberta's official student journalism society, is excited to announce that we are once again seeking submissions of student art and design-related work to include within our magazine. Our goal for the magazine is for it to be a space that showcases the creative accomplishments of students, written and visual, and so we are seeking the work of artists from across campus. This year we have decided to incorporate themes for some monthly issues, which are meant to not only allow for a range of creative interpretations, but also provide structure to the overall organization of the magazine. However, most issues will not be themed, which gives contributors maximum creative freedom.
Themes:
(your work may fit into or be inspired by one of these themes but does not need to be)
Fear
Mental Health
Personality and Identity
All undergraduate students with work that is related to art and design (including but not limited to printmaking, painting, photography, illustration, etc.) are welcome to submit as many pieces as they'd like. Please feel free to submit new or previous work.
Although we may continue to send calls during the academic year, our goal this summer is to collect more submissions so we can plan accordingly for each issue, and also provide more feedback to students along the way. Whether or not we run similar campaigns in the future depends on the volume of submissions we get now, so it is strongly recommended that anyone interested in submitting their work do so as soon as possible. The deadline for this call is June 17, 2019.
If your work is selected, you will be contacted and specific technical arrangements will be discussed for the best way to present your work. Submissions will be selected by The Gateway's Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Art Director, and Photo Editor.
Please direct any questions to Art Director Peter Elima at [email protected].
We look forward to seeing your submissions,
The Gateway
