Spooky Pitches Round Two!
With Thankstober behind us and Spooktober still ahead of us, this month of Arts & Culture goodness has just begun. 😎LitFestThis is a pitch from last week, but it bears repeating since it's such a sweet opportunity. Cover events and/or interview authors at LitFest, Edmonton's non-fiction literature festival! The festival runs October 11-21 throughout the city. The full schedule is available here. The Gateway has secured media access to all events except the Brunch and Food Matters. Peruse the schedule and let me know if you'd like to interview any authors or cover any events!Wildlife, a large-scale public video installationWith Nuit Blanche behind us, do you have a newfound craving for public installation art? Then you're in luck. Edmonton video artist Tim Folkmann has created a new large-scale video piece depicting birds and animals in motion, which will be projected onto the red brick west wall of the Rossdale Power Plant from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13, 2018. Various city organizations co-sponsored this project as part of a larger public art initiative called "Tracing Connections in River Crossing." You could interview either or both Folkmann and/or city personnel about this piece and this new initiative.Governor General's Literary Awards finalists announced...time for a roundtable? The finalists for the Governor General's Literary Awards were announced late last week. The GGs are a group of annual awards in Canadian literature funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and sponsored by the Governor General. They're basically the Pulitzer Prizes of Canada. I think it could be fun to set up a panel to share takes on the finalists, the nature, history, and adjudication of the awards, and our hopes and predictions as to who will win. Think election dissection, but for Canadian books. If this interests you, let me know and I'll get to work setting this up. Yay for books!U of A BFA Acting student stars in upcoming Star Wars fan filmU of A BFA Acting student Elizabeth Chamberlain is starring in Rogue Bounty, a Star Wars fan film. A teaser of the film aired at Edmonton Expo, and the cast and crew expect to release the film in December of 2019, in time for the ninth installment in the series. Interview Chamberlain to talk about the movie, as well as her experience so far as a BFA Acting student in green and gold.
